TED is a non profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. They are usually in the form of crisp and powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED, which started in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged has grown and always supported the world-changing ideas and initiatives. TED, being a global community, welcomes people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. TED is owned by a nonprofit, nonpartisan foundation and their agenda is to make great ideas accessible and spark conversation.
In the spirit of Ideas Worth Spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The content and design of each TEDx event is unique and is based on needs of the community.
TEDxLakeheadU is a student initiative for those who are willing to inspire people and bring a change in the community. Our vision is to instigate the thought process and allow the person to fathom the depths of comprehension of the human mind. Our aim is to exhibit new and and redefined ways of doing tasks with hopes to 'Redesign' your brain and spark the idea of creativity. With this initiative, we take great pride in bringing a TED-like experience to Lakehead University.
